Media Services
The library media center houses a collection of more than 5,500 fiction and non-fiction print titles. During 2006-2007 the AISF library is launching a library automation process. Kindergarten-5th grades attend classes in the library to develop borrowing habits, share book choice strategies, learn research and locating skills, and just enjoy books. Storytelling and booktalks are held in the cozy, carpeted area near the picture books and periodicals. Library staff try to develop a reading/writing community among library users, and make every effort to support classroom curricular units. To computer work stations are available in the library for student and staff use.
Our multicultual and science periodicals for the pre-school to middle school levels are regularly appraised. Teachers view periodicals as particularly important tools for keeping them current in their field. Television, VCR and DVD players are available in the Libary and on portable cards to be used in the classrooms. Digital Video and still cameras are available to support instruction and communication skills for students and staff.
Children from Kindergarten-8th grade use educational software or connect to the internet by satellite in our 10-station PC. Computer faciliities are available in all homeroom classrooms with Mac machines used in Preschool to 3rd grade. All students in grades Kg-8th have weekly standards-based lessons with the IT Coordinator. In addition class teachers schedule curritulum related lessons in the computer to support instruction. Our IT coordinator, who frequently attends summer courses on computer software and on hardware maintenance, collaborates with staff in hardware and software purchases which are added to yearly as finances permit.
