STUDENT COUNCIL UPDATE

It's my pleasure to report that our Student Council group is off to a fantastic start this year! Elections for Student Council were held throughout the school last month. The students of AISF selected Zeinab Mackie as Student Council President, Kenny Criss-Couch as Vice President, and Keith Tukei, Gordon Bruns, Abdulrahman Yinusa and Ifunanya Ezechukwu as Student Representatives. The group meets about once a week to discuss school activities and issues.

As you probably know, the Student Council's first project of the year was the Thanksgiving Food Drive. I was impressed with the Council's first decision of the year was to implement a program to help some of the less fortunate children in their community. I was also impressed with the way our whole school * students, parents and staff * contributed with such generosity to make the food drive a huge success. Working with a local charity called the Lemonade Fund, we distributed our food donations between three local foster homes: Children in Crisis, Christian Mission and Portee Angel of Guardian. Children from each foster home, along with their program director, came to our school so that they could meet our students personally when they received the donations. They wish to express their sincere gratitude to each of you for this wonderful demonstration of the true spirit of Thanksgiving.

The Student Council has other big plans in the works. There is discussion of an end-of-year clothing drive to follow up on the success of the Thanksgiving Food Drive. We are also planning to hold an open meeting in January to involve the entire student body more closely in our planning, and to hear any concerns, ideas and requests that AISF students would like to be addressed by the administration. In the meantime, we encourage you to speak to Zeinab, Kenny, Keith, Gordon, Abdulrahman or Ifunanya any time you have questions or ideas you'd like to share.

Keep up the great work, AISF!
