AISF SCHOOL BOARD

A message from the Board President…AWOKO  October 2010

Since my arrival in Freetown in late July, I have met with the Director, members of the school administration and faculty, parents, all members of the Board. I am enthusiastic about working with parents, the Director and school administration, and all stakeholders in the AISF community to help the school fulfill its mission and objectives. I am firmly committed to conducting the Board according to the highest standards and principles of Board governance and in line with best practices to ensure maximum transparency and accountability in the operation of the Board as well as the school. An emphasis will be placed on open communication, and on ensuring every opportunity is available for parent participation and engagement. We plan to expand use of the AISF web site to include a prominent link to the School Board, where parents will have easy access to information and documents pertaining to the Board and its operations, such as Board meeting agendas and the summary of minutes for all meetings.
The Board has much to accomplish over the coming year, none of which will be possible without parent engagement and participation.

At our September 30 meeting the Board formed three committees: Finance, Facilities, and Policy. Board committees should consist of about five members. The Director and Board President are de facto members of each committee, and a Board member will chair each committee: the Finance Committee will be chaired by Doug Sun; the Facilities Development Committee will be chaired by Francis Wahome; and, the Policy Committee will be chaired by Cora Nally. The Board is seeking parent members for the other two seats on each committee. We strongly encourage parent participation on these committees, and we look forward to hearing from parents who may be interested in volunteering their time and skills for the betterment of the school and its future.
